Victoria Tarubva Machipisa
Zimbabwe
Victoria Machipisa is a Zimbabwean contemporary visual artist whose practice explores women, memory, identity, caregiving, resilience and the transmission of cultural knowledge across generations. Working across painting, drawing, mixed media and photography, Machipisa transforms intimate experiences and everyday realities into works that ask larger questions about who is seen, who is remembered and whose stories are preserved. Rooted in Zimbabwean cultural experience and informed by her engagement with contemporary African art and curatorial practice, Machipisa is interested in the space between the personal and the collective. Her figures often become vessels for stories that extend beyond the individual: the mother, the child, the caregiver, the worker, the artist and the woman carrying responsibilities that are rarely fully acknowledged. Her visual language moves between acrylic, pencil, mixed media, printmaking and photography, allowing her to shift between immediacy and reflection. Rather than treating the human figure simply as a subject, she uses the figure as an archive—holding memory, labour, vulnerability, strength and cultural inheritance within the body
