Voluntary Blindness

Ben mbuyulu
Year2026
Dimensions28/25
Price$440 USD

Voluntary Blindness explores the human tendency to deliberately turn away from truths that are difficult to face. Sometimes, blindness is not the inability to see, but a conscious choice to remain unaware. The covered eyes symbolize denial, fear, illusion, and the desire to protect oneself from an uncomfortable reality. Behind the veil, the truth remains present, even when the individual chooses not to confront it. The work invites the viewer to question their own relationship with reality: Are we truly unable to see, or do we sometimes choose not to see? Through this tension between vision and concealment, the painting reflects on awareness, responsibility, and the fragile boundary between truth and illusion.
